Easily grown and prefers acid, well-drained but moist soil. An excellent choice in the landscape where a textural effect is desired. Often used as a hedge here in the south but we have found it to be very handsome when combined with broadleaf evergreens. A medium to fast growing plant, the leaves are a lustrous dark green in the summer and turn a bronze-green to bronze-purple in late fall and on into the winter. Flowers only on new growth so best to prune after flower fall. A plant that has been used for years by gardeners and landscapers alike.
