The Encore® series of azalea are a significant breakthrough in azalea plantings. If you love the spring blooms of an azalea, then imagine that bloom not only in the spring, but in the summer and again in the fall! Large blooms on sturdy plants make these azaleas popular with homeowners and landscapers alike. To obtain the maximum bloom possible of your Encore® Azalea, they need at least six hours of sun a day. And like all azaleas, they are very shallow-rooted and enjoy well-drained, slightly acidic soils. They are planted in the south as an understory, many times under our pine trees. The Encore® azalea series was developed by Robert E. Lee of Independence, LA, in the early 1980s. His intent was to hybridize azaleas that would bloom not only in the spring but also in the fall. He evaluated the color of the blossom, quality of the foliage, and vigor of the plant as well as, of course, the flowering period.

These plants flower in the spring; then they stop growing and set buds, beginning to bloom again in the summer and continuing to bloom until the weather turns cold. In mild Decembers here in the south, it is not unusual to see them still showing off.

Lee's original production was six cultivars. They varied in shades of pink, orange, and lavender. Some were compact in growth, and others were taller and served nicely as background plants. Now more than fourteen cultivars have been developed. They are more diverse and varied in color and size than when they were first developed.  Currently we offer:  Autumn Angel, Autumn Bravo, Autumn Carnation, Autumn Cheer, Autumn Coral, Autumn Debutante,  Autumn Rouge, Autumn Twist, and Autumn Sunset.  Inventory varies depending on season.
