Hachiya Japanese Persimmon is astringent Persimmon. Like about all Japanese Persimmons, the chilling requirements are somewhat less than 200 hours. Fruit is quite large, oblong with a rather short point. The skin turn a bright orange-red with darker blotches when it is ripe; it has a long shelf-life. Probably the largest and best cooking Japanese Persimmon that we sell. A very tasty Persimmon when eaten soft right off the tree. Grafted on Lotus Persimmon root, it usually ripens in November in our part of North Carolina. Should be eaten 'Soft Ripe'.
